Fascinated by
the Civil War, this pattern consists of 9 large
blocks taken from an authentic 1850's quilt top
purchased in Pennsylvania not far from the
battle areas.
I have named the framed X block, the "Battleground Block" because it reminds me
of the soldiers in the fields and the blood that
was shed in their fight. (This block is not
documented or named in any quilt books.)
The other three blocks are Underground Railroad
blocks. The original top was much larger, as
the maker set all the large blocks on point
using a red and black print which made the top
over 100 inches square. The color palette is
very similar to the original top. |
